Little Giant Ladder Company Best Selling Ladders
Now that I've used my new Little Giant Ladder Type 1 Alta-One (22 foot) I wanted to review it for from a fresh perspective. Little Giant Ladder systems have been around for a LONG time, but most companies end up sacrificing quality to either keep the price down, increase profits or both.Thankfully, that's not the case here.
When it comes to a ladder, safety has to take priority over price; and when you can get one of the best, safest ladders for a competitive price, that's all the better.
Anyone who has ever been on a shaky ladder knows exactly what I mean.
Why I Chose The Little Giant Type 1 Alta-One Over The 1A Classic
When trying to decide which Little Giant ladder to buy, I first had to figure out how tall of a ladder I would need, because the Alta-One only goes to 22 feet whereas the Type 1A Classic is available in 26 foot as well. The primary job I HAD to get a better ladder for was the task shown in the upper left. That ceiling fan/light combination had been "upgraded" to one of those wireless Litex controls.
The Litex systems, when they work, are pretty neat. This one, though, had been temperamental for a while and finally got to where it didn't work at all. So what was I going to do, try to trouble shoot what was wrong or just get the thing working. The light was SUPPOSED to be on a 3 way switch anyway so it could be turned on when coming in the back door.
Some previous owner, though, had the genius idea that he could install the Litex and just have the switch by the back door be hooked up to...nothing! (He could have at least taken the switch out and replaced it with a "blank".)
So I had to get into the mount housing for the fan to remove the Litex control and rewire the fan & light directly.
I figured that 22' would be more than enough for this job and that in the "step ladder" configuration it would be plenty tall for cleaning out gutters and other interior needs in the high ceiling Texas hill country homes.
So it all came down to 2 reasons I chose the Type 1 Alta-One over the Type 1A classic:
- The Alta-One is $80 less than the same length Classic.
- The Alta-One, while only rated for 250lbs instead of 300lbs would be more than enough for me and it was all of 3 pounds lighter to carry around (39 vs 42). While that doesn't seem like much, on a hot, humid afternoon cleaning gutters and getting it in and out and around bushes, 3 pounds is 3 pounds!
Best Price On A Little Giant Ladder System
I hunted all over for a Little Giant Ladder coupon and could not find a thing. What I did find is that as long as I'm not from Utah or California, there is no sales tax if I buy direct from Little Giant Ladder Systems themselves. And, there is FREE FREIGHT from them also.
You can click here to get the same deal I did.
Yes I could get the same ladders at Costco (too far away to justify being a member), Lowe's or Home Depot. My local Lowe's and Home Depot did not carry the ladder in stock and would charge the full 8.25% sales tax for where I live.
The price was going to be the same so I figured why not just go straight to the source?
Job Review: Little Giant Ladder Alta-One
First things first, the ladder was delivered already all assembled in a box just cut it open and start using it.For this job with the ceiling fan, I brought it in and set it up on the tile floor and found that the feet were rock solid on the floor, no need to block it or have someone "heel" it for me.
This is another time when I am glad it was 3 pounds lighter. I had to extend it only far enough to reach that beam on the ceiling and adjusting it while trying not to bump anything else or lose control of the ladder and have it whap (and break or mark up) something was what I wanted to avoid.
Extending the ladder is really easy, too. I set the one end while on the floor, stood the ladder up and unlocked the other end, then slid it up until it was high enough and re-locked it.
I'm personally not a huge fan of working on ladders, so when I started climbing up and felt how solid the ladder was and how well the feet were gripping the floor below and that small chunk of "wall" above I was thrilled that I had spent the money for a QUALITY ladder.
After all, I have used a cheap aluminum extension ladder at the houses back in Illinois for close to 30 years and never had the brains to borrow my brother's Type 1A Classic Little Giant. That extension ladder does not have the flared out base on each end which really contributes to the stability of the Little Giant.
At this point, I may very well leave the old extension ladder up in Illinois.
Once you have used a Little Giant Ladder you won't want to go back.
I just couldn't be happier that I finally bought my own Little Giant Ladder system and am very happy with the Type 1 Alta-One (22 foot) that I chose.
